The Pustinja Monastery is located not far from the center of the village of Poćute, at the entrance to the Pustinja Gorge, which was cut by the river Jablanica into the northwestern slopes of the Valjevo Mountains. It belongs to the Diocese of Valjevo of the Serbian Orthodox Church and represents an immovable cultural asset as a cultural monument of great importance.
This holy place, inconceivable from the road and the river, sheltered by the steep, wooded slopes of the mountain Orlovača on the north and Bela stena on the south, fully justified the name given to it. About three kilometers away from the surrounding settlements, surrounded by dense forest, a narrow, flat plateau provided ideal conditions for the erection of a sacral seat that preserves and dissipates Christian Orthodox spirituality.
For the last two decades, the monastery has greatly improved with the exceptional work of a small number of sisters and with the help of donors. In 1986, a two-story dormitory with a dining room, bishop’s chambers and cells was built, a gate surrounded by a stone wall with a large entrance gate, and an economic building was built outside the courtyard. On the western edge of the gate, a chapel will be built, which will be dedicated to St. Vasilije Ostroški with the parish dining room and the facility for lighting candles in order to protect the frescoes in the main church. The grassy monastery yard, next to the flower alleys, is adorned with a century-old pine tree, planted in 1848, which, with a properly developed trunk and a rich canopy, is classified as a natural monument. Now, over this place, at the beginning and end of each day, the sound of the church bell echoes through the forest and scatters the Desert Orthodox spirituality over the mountain heights.
Today, the monastery is managed by Abbess Nina, and next to her, there are two other nuns in the monastery.
